Location and infrastructure
Around 35,000 inhabitants live in the city of Mühlhausen. As an economic, political, and cultural hub in the northwest of Thuringia, the city is the centre of some 75,000 people's lives. With more than 16,000 jobs subject to social security deductions, approximately 50 percent of all jobs in the Unstrut-Hainich district are found in Mühlhausen.
The medium-sized economy has the following cluster industries:

- Electrical and electronic industry
- Textile processing
- Food production
Mühlhausen has had an extensive fibre optic network and fast broadband internet since 2016. Transmission rates of 25 to 100 Mbit/s are possible as standard. Higher transmission rates can be achieved according to customer requirements.
Highly trained specialists
Mühlhausen also has a solid base of well-trained specialists. The state-wide excellent vocational training centre offers companies excellent opportunities for youth development. For example, 400 full- and part-time students in the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, and mechatronics are trained at the College of Technology.
