A synagogue in Mühlhausen was first mentioned in 1380. The current synagogue building of 1841/1842 was violated on 9th November 1938. After the war, it was transferred to the Jewish Landesgemeinde Thüringen. After overall restoration that began in 1987, the synagogue was re-consecrated in 1998. The church and parish buildings are meeting places with an exhibition and library.
