THURINGIAN STATE EXHIBITION 2025

freiheyt 1525 - 500 years of the Peasants' War

The Peasants' War of 1525 left its mark on the collective memory of German-speaking countries for generations. Thuringia was not only the scene of a decisive turning point in the uprising, but also the final place of activity of the radical reformer Thomas Müntzer. For these reasons, the Thuringian state government has decided to use the 500th anniversary of the German Peasants' War as an opportunity to host a Thuringian state exhibition in Mühlhausen and Bad Frankenhausen in 2025.

Various events will be organized in the Mühlhausen museums and in the Panorama Museum Bad Frankenhausen 2025 under the title "freiheyt 1525 - 500 years of the Peasants' War". Mühlhausen and Bad Frankenhausen are central locations for the historical events.

Duration of the exhibition in Mühlhausen: April 26 to October 19, 2025
Duration of the exhibition in Bad Frankenhausen: May 10 to August 17, 2025

The nickname "muhlhousia turrita" - the tower-adorned Mühlhausen - originated as early as the Middle Ages. The name still applies today because no matter from which direction you approach the town the numerous church towers can be seen from afar.

The town's period of prosperity was in the Middle Ages and its stony witnesses still exist today. When exploring Mühlhausen, you can discover numerous Gothic churches, monuments, domestic architecture and half-timbered buildings as well as former mill sites.
