To mark the 225th birthday of the internationally renowned master builder and architect Friedrich August Stüler, the working group named after him is holding a conference in his native town of Mühlhausen in Thuringia on 1 February 2025. The anniversary will be celebrated with lectures on current research into Stüler's person and life's work.
‘Preserving the legacy of this famous son of our city and keeping it alive is an important task that is close to all our hearts. We would therefore like to thank the working group for its initiative and support this conference with conviction and pleasure,’ said Dr Johannes Bruns, Lord Mayor of Mühlhausen.
Friedrich August Stüler, born on 28 January 1800 in Mühlhausen, is one of the most important architects of the 19th century. As ‘architect to the king’ Friedrich Wilhelm IV, his designs not only characterised the architecture of Berlin, but also created important buildings in many places. In addition to the Neues Museum in Berlin, Stüler also designed numerous churches and manor houses in Brandenburg. He was also recognised internationally for his designs, such as the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm and the Academy of Sciences in Budapest. In Mühlhausen, Friedrich August Stüler is commemorated by a memorial plaque on his birthplace at Bei der Marienkirche 9, opposite St Mary's Church.
The August Stüler Working Group has set itself the task of researching and communicating knowledge about the outstanding architect of the 19th century. The aim is to raise public awareness of Friedrich August Stüler's legacy and prevent it from being forgotten.
We invite you to take part in this public event and learn more about the life and work of this extraordinary personality.
