With this year's new photo exhibition, the Historische Wehranlage will become the setting for a panorama of Mühlhausen's citizens. Under the title "On Glass and Cardboard: Faces of a City", the Mühlhausen museums will present portrait photographs from the 19th and early 20th centuries in the Wedemeyer Garden House from 6 April 2023.
Famous personalities of the town such as the deaf photographer Ferdinand Tellgmann, the factory owner Louis Oppé or the organist Frieda Mickel-Suck are presented. Wooden models explain how photographic processes were discovered and which materials were used. To accompany the exhibition, videos in German sign language are available, a selfie wall invites visitors to join in and guided programmes illuminate selected exhibition contents for young and old.
The curator of the exhibition, Etienne Genedl, was awarded the Friedrich August Stüler Prize for the conception of the exhibition. The sponsorship prize was awarded by the Friends of the Mühlhausen Museums on 28 January 2023.
