Special guided tour: "In the footsteps of Johann Sebastian Bach" on 21 March 2024, at 14:00

Johann Sebastian Bach marks the undisputed high point in Mühlhausen's rich musical history. In June 1707, he took up his post as organist in the Divi Blasii church in Mühlhausen at the age of just 22.

His time from 1707 to 1708 is undoubtedly the "period of early mastery". Cantatas composed in Mühlhausen include "Christ lag in Todesbanden" (BWV 4), "Aus der Tiefe rufe ich, Herr, zu dir" (BWV 131) and the "Actus tragicus" (BWV 106). His most famous Mühlhausen cantata, the council cantata "Gott ist mein König" (BWV 71) was even printed at the instigation of the Mühlhausen council, which was very unusual for the time.

The work and life of Johann Sebastian Bach during his time in Mühlhausen is the subject of the guided tour: "In the footsteps of Johann Sebastian Bach" on 21 March 2024, the 339th birthday of the musician. Participants will learn interesting facts about a period in the life of the musician described as rebellious, wilful and capricious.

The meeting point for the tour is at 2.00 pm at the Tourist Information Centre in Mühlhausen, Ratsstraße 20. Anyone interested should call the Tourist Information Centre on 03601 40 47 70 to register.

Two more tips: The Bach birthday tribute will take place at the Bach memorial in front of the Divi Blasii church at 11:00 am. Participants are welcome to attend in advance. The Divi Blasii Church will be open to visitors on 21 March 2024 from 10:00 to 16:00.

Participation fee: 10,00 €
