On 15 May 2024, €500.00 was handed over for the erection of the Dürer column at Mühlhausen's Kornmarkt in the Tourist Information Mühlhausen. The donation was jointly collected by Mühlhausen tour guides, the staff of the Mühlhausen Tourist Information Centre and Wirtschaftsbetriebe Mühlhausen GmbH. Dr Michael Scholl, Chairman of the Friends of the Mühlhausen Museums, and Marco Fongern, current President of the Rotary Club of Mühlhausen, accepted the donation.
"In 2025, we will be able to show our guests a new place worth seeing in Mühlhausen," said tour guide Sandra Heintze, who came up with the idea for the campaign. "She and the other tour guides agree that the future monument can be wonderfully integrated into a guided tour of the town," Heintze continues.
To mark the Thuringian state exhibition "freiheyt 1525 - 500 Jahre Bauernkrieg" in 2025, a seven-metre-high bronze monument with a plinth is to be erected on the Kornmarkt in Mühlhausen to commemorate the Peasants' War 500 years ago. The famous Nuremberg artist Albrecht Dürer drew the design for this monument back in 1525. The handover of the donation is therefore a further step towards the realisation of the project.
