Mühlhausen's town centre is still characterized by half-timbered houses. The oldest half-timbered houses still standing date back to the 16th century. This is why Mühlhausen is also part of the regional route of the German Half-Timbered Road from the Harz Mountains to the Thuringian Forest. Many of the once plastered houses have been redesigned with half-timbering since 1990.
As part of the tour, details and ornamentation will be explained on some selected houses. The symbolism of certain half-timbered elements and the half-timbered construction method are also explained. The so-called Thuringian ladder is often found in Mühlhausen. The meeting point for the guided tour on 26.05.2024 at 14:00 is the Tourist Information Mühlhausen in Ratsstraße 20. Registration is required in advance at the Tourist Information.
