The year 2025 will be of great significance for Thuringia and Mühlhausen: It will mark the 500th anniversary of the peasant uprisings of 1524/25, which shook the world at the time. Mühlhausen was not only the place where Thomas Müntzer worked, but also a central theatre of the Peasants' War of 1525. These events shaped the town and make it a place of great historical significance.
To mark the 500th anniversary of the Peasants‘ War, the Thuringian state exhibition “freiheyt 1525 - 500 years of the Peasants” War’ will be held in Mühlhausen and Bad Frankenhausen next year. A varied programme awaits visitors in Mühlhausen. The museums in Mühlhausen are dedicating three locations to the theme of ‘Freedom 1525 - 500 Years of Peasants’ War’. In addition, the city administration's project team is planning a varied supporting programme with numerous highlights and events for the theme year ‘2025: Year of Freedom’.
History buffs and interested parties who are already looking forward to the upcoming theme year can experience a first taste of what is to come from the beginning of November in the Stadt-Werkstatt at Steinweg 4 in Mühlhausen.
