The original Thuringian plum jam is enormously important for Mühlhausen. It is by far the most popular plum jam in Germany and, as the nationwide market leader, has its origins in Mühlhausen. Home-brewed beer and a "1-metre bratwurst" are offered by the restaurant "Brauhaus zum Löwen". Traditional bakeries offer delicious delicacies, such as Thuringian sheet cake with sour cream coating. Genuine Thuringian classics such as dumplings, red cabbage, roulades and steak “Rostbrätel” can also be found on the menus.
