City Archives — Archive Library
The archive library comprises four independent libraries and, with 23,000 volumes, forms an extensive collection on city and regional history, the history of the Reformation and the Peasants' War, and the legal and medical history of the 17th and 18th centuries. The library is indexed by an alphabetical and a subject catalog, as well as two special bibliographies. The book collection can only be viewed in the reading room; borrowing is not possible. The archive library is not connected to the interlibrary loan system.
Guided tours of the Imperial City Archives take place every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 11:00 a.m. The tours last approximately 30 minutes and cost €5 per person. A special exhibition of finds that came to light during the renovation work is on display. The tours take place during the main tourist season from Easter to the end of October.
