Enjoy a versatile swimming area with a total of over 1,100 m² of water surface in the outdoor pool at Schwanenteich in Mühlhausen, which opened in 2020.

Awaiting you is a swimmer's pool with six 25-meter lanes, a diving pool with a 1-meter board and a 3-meter diving tower, an adventure pool with a 16-meter long wide slide and a 140 m² water playground for exuberant swimming fun. Barrier-free access is provided. The pools are heated by over 500 m² of solar mats using solar energy and guarantee a pleasant water temperature. When the sun is not shining, they cool down accordingly.

A separate children's pool with an adjacent adventure playground awaits the little water rats.

A large part of the beautiful tree population of the old Mühlhausen open-air swimming pool is still preserved today and provides shade just as it did in the days of our grandparents more than 60 years ago.

The infrastructure has been completely changed with a cashier's building, a building for changing rooms, toilets (barrier-free), showers and the technical building with the swimming pool attendant's office and first aid room.

If you are feeling a little hungry in the meantime, or even very hungry, a bistro and an ice cream parlor on the premises will provide you with all kinds of delicious food, drinks and, of course, lots of ice cream.

Due to a good traffic connection, directly at the B 249 and a stop of the public regional bus service, you can reach the open-air swimming pool without any problems. There are plenty of parking spaces nearby.

We wish you a wonderful time in our beautiful new outdoor pool!

The multigenerational house "Geschwister Scholl" has established itself as a leisure and educational meeting place for students and young people. Under the management of the Mühlhausen city council, the focus is placed on youth house work, especially open youth work. The house with its spatial and content-related possibilities is ideal for this.

Since 2008 it is called "Everything under one roof". The facility has expanded its use as a multi-generation house. There is no question that youth work will continue to be the focus. However, the house is to become a meeting place for ALL generations, a place where young and old meet again as a matter of course.

In touch with nature: Native! Wild! Real! Welcome to the Alternativer Bärenpark Worbis The innovative project run by the STIFTUNG für BÄREN (Foundation for Bears) is the first alternative bear park in Germany and a pioneering institution in terms of keeping bears and wolves in a way that respects the animals. The idea is not to put the animal on display and just stare at it, but to let the largest predator in Europe simply be a bear in wide open spaces, to bring its instincts (back) to life and to discover the wild animal within itself. This was something that neither the bears, which had once been abused by humans, nor their fellow creatures, the wolves, were allowed to do in their previous lives. They are now living and learning together in the Alternativer Bärenpark Worbis. And what we can do as members of the two-legged team is give them a voice and tell their stories. This is where humans are guests in the realm of bears and wolves. This is how our four-legged friends can open our eyes, minds and hearts: PARDO the brown bear is enjoying a playful bath in the pond, with the old wolf ADENA in the background, quietly stalking down the hill through the foliage. Her mission is to poach the food from female bear LAURA! You, dear visitors, are a witness to this exciting scene, but you yourself are being watched with wolfish acumen as the half-breed wolves RONJA and RAIK sneak through the thicket behind you. They disappear and reappear like ghosts in the outdoor enclosures, making their way with fascinating skill through the bear's forest, past the black bear JIMMY and the brown bear KATJA. Moments like these are part of everyday life in the animal conservation project in Thuringia run by the STIFTUNG für BÄREN, but they are not ordinary. There is no other institution in Central Germany where can you experience wolves and bears this close to nature and this wild.

The Possen is surrounded by meadows and beech woods. The octagonal timber-framed tower, which was built in 1781 and is the highest (44.8m) of its kind in Germany, is a popular observation tower.

The Possen leisure and recreation park is very popular with its numerous animal enclosures, large playgrounds, bouncy cushion play area, petting zoo, indoor and adventure playground. A high ropes course invites courageous people on several levels to balance, climb and try the Big Swing. Little ones (from around 3 years of age), can put their climbing skills to the test in the children's climbing garden, which is surrounded by safety nets.

A beer garden and restaurant awaits its guests in the former royal hunting lodge. There is a large kiosk/snack bar, as well as the option to stay overnight in the bungalow village. The Possenturm (with a height of 44.80 m the largest half-timbered tower in Europe) is both a landmark and a lookout tower.

Friedenstein Castle in Gotha was surrounded by one of the strongest baroque fortifications in Central Germany - the casemates. The fortifications, which today lie beneath the castle park, have remained unchanged for more than 350 years and are in a very well preserved condition, thus further enhancing the architectural historical significance of the imposing castle complex.

The casemates can be visited on an approximately 300-metre-long underground tour. There are embrasure chambers, gun galleries, rear weirs, connecting passages, lift shafts and much more to discover.

Duke Ernst the Pious had the castle built from 1643 to 1654 on the foundation walls of the former Grimmenstein. In 1655, the foundation stone was laid for the fortification. This never had to prove its effectiveness. From 1772 onwards, the fortifications were removed above ground, ramparts and ditches were levelled in order to complete the castle park.

In the casemates there are constant temperatures of 8 degrees all year round. There are daily public guided tours with advance reservation.

The dragon gorge is a gorge near Eisenach in the Thuringian Forest in the nature reserve "Forests with gorges between Wartburg and Hohe Sonne". The gorge is located in the south of Eisenach, between the southern outskirts of the town (Hotel Sophienaue) and the forest village Hohe Sonne on the Rennsteig. There you will find the Annatal, the southern end of the Mariental. Together with the neighbouring Landgrafenschlucht (gorge) to the east and the Ludwigsklamm (gorge) rising from the Johannistal, the Drachenschlucht is a popular hiking destination, especially in the summer months. The southern access is at the Hohe Sonne, the northern access is at the driveway to the Waldhaus Sängerwiese. Parallel to the gorge, the B 19 runs the entire distance from Eisenach in the direction of Gumpelstadt and Meiningen. There are parking spaces for hikers at both main accesses. For safety reasons, additional paths have been built to allow quick exit from the gorge in case of storms or accidents. Thundering water underfoot, millions of glittering water droplets on mossy rocks that are only a little more than a man's width apart - the Drachenschlucht is one of the most exciting geological monuments in Thuringia.

During extensive excavations between 1957 and 1964, archaeologists found the relics of a prehistoric cult site on the edge of a lake north of Niederdorla. The rituals began in the 6th century B.C. Today, an open-air museum stands on this site, vividly documenting the history of the cult site from the Iron Age to the Migration Period. The site comprises ten faithfully reconstructed sanctuaries, a settlement from the time of the Germanic tribes and a museum in wooden construction, in which numerous finds such as ceramics and cult objects are exhibited.

The Wildcat Children's Forest - a forest adventure area southeast of Kammerforst - consists of large-scale play elements. These include various climbing mazes, a bird's nest swing, a crawling tunnel system and a three-story adventure sandbox, all of which blend impressively and harmoniously into the forest landscape. The masterfully and whimsically shaped structures are works of the company "Künstlerische Holzgestaltung Bergmann" from Zentendorf/Saxony. Each of these objects has a unique character, but the handwriting is always unmistakable. During the planning, development and construction of this playground, special emphasis was placed on the playful connection between nature, art and man. The Wildcat Children's Forest joins the range of activities in the Hainich National Park that have been developed since its founding in 1997. Especially children and adolescents should be enabled a playful contact with nature, which gradually promotes the comprehension of natural contexts.

Hütscheroda, which has been known as the Wild Cat Village since 2012, is located in the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Hainich National Park - just a stone's throw away from Wartburg Castle and the treetop trail. Wildcat glade This attraction is dedicated to the Hainich's symbolic animal - the wildcat. Four of the shy animals can be observed at close quarters. Visitors climb an observation tower or enter an earth house to meet the wildcat "eye to eye". Beforehand, you can learn many interesting things about the rare animals in the wild cat barn. Here also the "rescue net for the wildcat" is presented, one of the largest nature conservation projects in Europe. A large illustration shows the habitat of the wildcat. In the multimedia forum, picture series and information films are presented. A theme island and a 3-D model complement the exhibition with interactive modules. Wildcat trail for children For a shorter stay, the 1.5 km (0.5 h) long wildcat creeping path is recommended. It leads through light-flooded deciduous forest past old tree giants with a view of open reforestation areas. Climbing elements along the way invite young and old to try their climbing skills, just like the wildcat. A fire pit with grill and benches can be used on request for a family outing to the wildcat village. Dogs are also welcome on leash at the Wild Cat Village. Moderated show feedings take place daily, for which you can register by phone. The wild cat enclosure and the exhibition are suitable for prams. Small visitors can play and paint in the children's corner. The Wildcat Village also hosts children's birthday parties and offers guided tours specially tailored to the needs of adolescents. Lynx exhibition The lynx also moved thematically into the wild cat barn. Innovative exhibition elements present the big brother of the wild cat: a multimedia children's quiz, hanging beanbags and a selfie point make the new exhibition an experience for young and old. Visitors can marvel at the lynxes "Looki" and "Kaja" in their near-natural lynx enclosure with an area of over 4,000 square metres.
