ANCIENT . VIVID . WORTH SEEING

Guided tours

The medieval imperial town of Mühlhausen has experienced an eventful history since its first mention in 967 in a document of king Otto II. During its heyday, which lasted until the 15th century, the town wall, town hall, churches and town houses were built and still characterise the townscape to this day. Thomas Müntzer made Mühlhausen a centre of the Reformation and the Peasants' War between 1523 and 1525. Johann Sebastian Bach's work as an organist at the Church of Blaise the Divine from 1707 to 1708 is another highlight of Mühlhausen's history. A famous son of the town is the builder of the Brooklyn Bridge Johann August Röbling.
